The track was constructed in 1979. The surface, rubberized asphalt, was typical for tracks constructed at that time. It has a limited ability for repairs and maintenance, and has a typical life expectancy of 12-15 years. Starting in the mid-1980's, rubberized asphalt was rarely used for new tracks.

The current track has:

• Large Cracks
• Numerous Breaks
• Uneven Surfaces
• Field event areas extremely deteriorated
• Lane markings not visible in places

These photos were taken in the fall of 2008 and show the deteriorated conditions of the track.
